Project Title: Contamination of forestry planting stock by alien invasive Phytophthora pathogens as hazard for forest ecosystems of the Czech Republic and its elimination
Key words: biological invasion; introduction; Phytophthora; biological pollution; forests; forest ecosystems; forest nurseries; root rot; integrated control
State funding provider: Technology Agency of the Czech Republic
Principal investigator: Karel Černý
Project period: 01/2017 – 12/2020
The aim of the project is to identify the threat resulting from the spread of alien invasive Phytophthora pathogens in forest nurseries, to identify their diversity, distribution, sources of infection in nurseries, to verify the influence of growing technologies and other operational conditions on their distribution and importance. The aim is also to verify the efficacy of biological and chemical preparations and other methods of pathogen control. The aim is to develop the methodology of integrated control of Phytophthora pathogens in forest nurseries reducing their distribution and spread, ensuring the quality and safe nursery stock production and, finally, minimizing the risks of alien Phytophthora species introductions into forest stands and ecosystems of the Czech Republic.
